With each text I publish I will publish some recommendations on whether or not everyone should read it. I'm not familiar with the American rating standards and, aside from that, I feel age to be a more internationally understood and an equal standard. I put the age limits in for a reason and will not be responsible if my readers choose to ignore them, thus possibly reading something they weren't prepared for. I want everyone to be able to enjoy and explore my blog safely. The age limits I use:
- A = allowed for everyone
- 7 = not recommended for people under seven years of age
- 12 = not recommended for people under twelve years of age
- 16 = not recommended for people under sixteen years of age
- 18 = eighteen years or more only
Warnings
If I want to make a special point of some content in a story, I will use a warning with the age limit. Warnings are as follows:
- Sexual content. For mild sexual content (e.g. kissing, sex implied) I will not use the warning, but for major content (e.g. actual sex described), this will be there.
- Violence. Again, for a slap the warning isn't used but if a text contains hard-core violence, especially if described in detail, take the warning into account when starting to read.
- Drugs/Alcohol. One beer will not ring the warning bell but for significant amounts of intoxicants you'll be warned.
- Distressing content. If I feel like the text in hand might cause anxiety, nightmares or such, I'll want you to know in advance.
DISCLAIMER: both the age limits and the warnings are used in Finland to rate movies, games and TV shows - I didn't invent them. I just find them good and working.
